This is the story of John Jacob Astor's love affair and marriage to Madeleine Force. With a lovely balance of opulent settings and well-drawn characters, we're drawn into a love story for the ages. Abe paints this relationship as a true love match, despite the fact that Astor was 30 years Madeleine's senior (which gives me predatory vibes when I think about it, and made me question if in real life the relationship was as "soul-matish" as portrayed).

Regardless, I was captivated by the story and rooting for the characters, and knowing what was coming only made their courtship and early marriage more poignant.

It was okay, I read the entire book but something felt odd. The main fmc seems like an airhead and it was also kinda annoying.
