Could have done without the only queer character being a predatory rapist.
Graphic: Sexual assault

This was genuinely so horrifying, and if I was still rating my reads, I wouldn’t know what to do with this. But I’m reading the second one. But also I’m not recommending this to a single soul…except one other person who I know is sick and twisted enough to be into it.

Not sure how I feel about this. Extreme horror in manga form--had this been a novel, I probably wouldn't have liked it, but as a manga? I think the slight censoring of nudity during certain scenes makes this more palatable than a novel, which would get into the grisly details without holding back (here's looking at Full Brutal by Kristopher Triana). Disturbing enough to be horrifying in a good way, but it's skating along being a little too gross with regards to the subject matter.
Will I continue the series? Absolutely. I adored Fort of Apocalypse by these guys, so I am holding out the hope this one is at least half as good. There's a similar dynamic with the morally "ambiguous" characters you are afraid of but also can't help but like and the innocent main character(s), and of course the hideous amounts of body horror is definitely a plus.
For anyone who liked Fort of Apocalypse and thinks they want to read this: please know this is far more extreme in just volume one compared to the entirety of that series. Basically every trigger warning applies here, EXCEPT animal harm. At least, not in this volume.
