This story was much better than the first book in the series (One Dance With A Duke). I thought the overall writing was better, the love story between these two leads was much more compelling. The character of Rhys was dynamic and well fleshed out and his backstory played so well into his belief of fate. The plot twists and character development was exceptional and left me wishing that some of the side characters got their own books just to see more into their minds and lives. I was hooked from page one and could barely put this book down to sleep.

this was nice, but i just wasnt as invested in it as i could have been. i didnt like the secondary romance either. the twist at the end did really catch me by surprise,
but i really wanted her to retain ownership of the inn. i felt like that was an important part of her character and autonomy and i would have loved to be able to see her stay involved with it.
her inability to have children was an interesting addition; i liked that representation, and i liked that it wasnt a huge deal or a major component of the conflict

An emotionally and physically scarred hero with a pragmatic but hopelessly in love heroine - what a delightful concept!

I really loved that this book focused more on working class people rather than the aristocracy as many historical romances do.

3,5 stars because Rhys made a lot of misogynistic micro aggressions towards Meredith about him not wanting her to work even though she clearly loves to. Luckily that was fixed in the ending but it came too late.

Also Meredith was right, why did Rhys keep telling!! Not asking!! For her hand in marriage??? That really annoyed me about him but I guess then it was revealed that he didn’t think she’d say yes and he felt a lot of guilt. BUT GUILT SHOULDN’T MAKE YOU WANT TO MARRY SOMEONE!! Ugh okay I think I’m done with my sorta rant. This took me a while to read because Rhys kept making me mad.

Was there passion? Yes, lots of it. But was there love? Yes, but I was not feeling it.

Meredith is very much a girl boss and I love her.

Also wtf that whole Darryl thing came out of nowhere??
