I really, really love Kevin Henkes. This is a great book for colors and seasons.

Another great picture book by Kevin Henkes. Simple storyline is great for toddler read-aloud, and the colors are so friendly and fun. Pair it with "Sleepy Bear" by Lydia Dabcovich.

This is a sweet, simple story about a bear who falls asleep in the winter and dreams of all of the things he loves about each season. When he wakes up, it's like he was never asleep! The winning element is the fanciful and riotous colors he imagines while he's sleeping. Double-page, full bleed illustrations create a sense of dreams fully realized. I guess it's a bit poignant too, since he's an "old" bear. He's seen many seasons and maybe won't be seeing too many more.

For: readers looking for a colorful book about the anticipation for Spring.
Possible red flags: surreal dream sequences.

Not bad, but a bit lame, I hoped for better from Henkes. The art of the dreaming bear is better. But all of this is a bit obvious. The young bear art in general isn't too bad, but I don't like the old bear art at all.
