This book would’ve been so much better at either the first or second ending. Why so many different ending?! I understand giving a big twist at the end, but this was just too much where it got extremely annoying and the real ending was entirely just bleh.

First ending: HEA. Olivia and James are settled at his home somewhere in southern France (I think) and they are happy and he is gardening. James’ last target was the man who shot Olivia’s daughter by mistake where her ex husband (secret arms dealer and government official) was the target. James retired from being an assassin because he couldn’t have a family, but he fell in love with Olivia so he didn’t want that life anymore. She found out she is pregnant and they are going to be parents.

Second ending: No-HEA. Olivia wakes up in a psychiatric hospital where she has been staying for 3-4 months in a psychotic break/trance where she was daydreaming her entire experience with James and never actually met him. The characters in her story were formed from real people at the hospital. She suffered from ALS and was losing all ability of her limbs, and she ended up there because she had a psychotic break from running over her daughter in the car by accident after she lost feeling in her foot when backing out of the driveway and thought her daughter was inside being watched by her husband (who was an alcoholic). No HEA here but great twist and great ending.

Third ending: Semi-HEA. Olivia is discharged and sent home to live out her days in whatever comfort she can find. Her husband is having an affair and just simply waiting for her to die. Her home health nurse is helping her dictate her new book, which is based on her psychiatric state where she basically dreamt her entire experience in France with James. She ends up dying in her death bed and finding James at the end of all of it. They hug and end up together as ghosts after she dies from ALS.

Fourth ending: HEA. THE ENTIRE THING IS MADE UP in a new book that Olivia wrote. She’s married to James, and her daughter is still alive.

I loved the book and hated the multiple endings.
