This was as heartbreaking as I was expecting it to be. It was honestly a tough read, and it made me ache all the more for everyone experiencing the horrors of the world right now. It made me ache, but it also enraged me, because the Capitol doesn’t feel like such a far-flung fiction these days.

Absolutely heartbreaking and devastating. Poor Haymitch deserved so much better.

Collins has done it again, this was a great addition to the hunger games series. Hilariously heavy handed in foreshadowing haymitch's drinking problem. His life is much more tragic than I'd imagined and makes his fall from a relatively upbeat kid to a jaded cynic that much sadder

God that was so brutal. Probably the saddest of all the books. Really had the same tone and energy of the first two books.

Made me cry twice, and had great poetry (as always with Suzanne Collins).

And I thought the first four Hunger Games books were devestating. They absolutely have nothing on this. I fear for the movie, as I doubt it can truly capture the horror and heartbreak Haymitch endures. There is no teenage love story in this arena, just a boy trying to survive as literal children are slaughtered. That is a fact the earlier books and movies let slide a little, with the older protagonists who keep to themselves. But Haymitch's attachment to the younger competetors refuses to let you look away or romanticize the slaughter.

Wish there was a bit more going on during the games part, especially since there were twice the amount of tributes but it only being less than a week for it to be done. Felt like he should have been involved in more, but I understand what it was he was trying to do.

Thank God for the epilogue because the other 380 pages very thoroughly answer the question ‘how come Haymitch drinks so much’ and it’s like getting punched in the teeth repeatedly
