This was between 3 and 4 stars for me. I wanted to like it so badly and I really tried. I actually DNFed this a few months back, but came back to give it another shot.

The beginning of the book was a real struggle for me. The FMC was seriously annoying. She dislikes the MMC for literally no reason and is consistently bratty to him. It’s not charming. She gets annoyed with him for things like being friends with everyone and asking her to text him so he knows she got home okay. Wow. What a monster. Whatever trope this is, I don’t like it.

Once they finally move beyond that stage, everything progresses WAY too quickly. I’m not big on angst, but this was a little ridiculous, even for me. One page they’re “enemies”, the next they’re getting married. Within the span of one month, they go from basically enemies and strangers to walking down the aisle at a perfectly planned wedding for over 100 people and they’re madly in love.

Then, the big drama with the town council gets resolved in 8 hours? She manages to get a bajillion signatures, file a motion, and get the city council to reconvene for a vote in like two seconds. I know this is a small town, but come on. I just can’t get on board with the pacing of this story.

That being said, I really liked Emmett. The way he cared for Avery and spoke to her was swoon-worthy. He was funny and obviously generous and caring. His motives were others-focused and honorable. Avery, Miss Independent, feminist, man-disliking-for-no-reason, Adams was lucky to score him.

Also, the cover is BEAUTIFUL. I am such a sucker for these cute cartoon covers and authors need to keep them coming.
