Not as good as shogun.

There are some really ridiculous racial myths included in the novel that are pretty shameful, and even the British behaviours seem a bit anachronistic.

Still, if you take the historicity with a pinch of salt, Clavell knows how to weave a good yarn that's very entertaining.

Not sure this is my kind of book.

At some points this was quite engaging, and the author gave a plausible description of the beginnings of Hong Kong.

At some points I got quite into it but most of of the time it was just too corny.

I'm not sure that thick paperback best-sellers from the 60s and 70s are great literature. This is pretty cheesy.
