Cannibalism/murder aside, the protagonist Dorothy was an absolute vibe I want to hang out with her. The writing in this was also a treat, if a bit sickeningly descriptive at times.

had high expectations but was quite disappointed with this. i love food in writing but felt this was badly executed? it was very monotonous, had too much waffle and the narrator was irritatingly pretentious.

Not for me. I’m definitely not the target audience so that’s expected. However, in the fraction I did read, I wasn’t compelled enough to keep with it.

Reading the blurb the premise sounded promising, despite its ambiguity. Upon reading what I did it was less about murder and more about the character and how much of a psychopath she was. Which she constantly reminded us of.

As a character, she wasn’t bad, if she was a part of a larger cast it would have been fine. But as the sole storyteller, her monologue and retelling of things became tiresome quickly. Mainly due to her ego and unrealistic descriptions of stories, which relied heavily on shock factor.

I can certainly see the appeal of the book and how people could enjoy it, so don’t be put off by this review.
