I honestly have read this series so many times. Like, more than once a year. This was my first book of Jennifer’s that I read and I have recommended it so many times to so many people. Alex is just my absolute favorite character. I love the love story and how it is taboo in the community. I love Aiden and his fierceness.

If you've read the Vampire Academy books, and are looking for something similar and can put aside the very apparent similarities, than this is the book for you. This isn't so much a review, as some observations I had while reading, so please excuse my jump from one thing to another.

Unlike vampires, Armentrout gives us a cast descendant from Greek gods, which is an interesting change from regular YA vampire fiction. Unfortunately, the actions/behaviours of the daimons (our resident evil characters) are quite similar to your typical evil vampire: they suck the blood of their victims ("purebloods") in order to get to the Aether in their blood.

As for the characters, Alex embodies the rebelliousness and stubborness of a teenager quite well, and she isn't weak or simpering. You can't help but be intrigued by Seth and love Aiden a little bit, which makes them the perfect characters for a strained love triangle.

Aiden = Dimitri in an almost uncanny manner, the only difference is that he isn't that much older than Alex. They both act instructors/trainers, vouching for our heroine's right to remain at the Academy/Covenant, both relationships are forbidden for one reason or another.

Despite some stunted dialogue and all-too familiar plot-line, the book does a fine job of making you want to know more, and see the relationships and characters develop. I'm very curious as to see what the sequel will have in store.

[Update: Apparently the book wasn't *that* memorable to me, because after buying the second I had to reread the first in order to remind myself what had happened. Not sure if that's a positive or a negative.]

It took me a while to finish this but overall, it was a pretty great read. The world Jennifer L. Armentrout has built really had my interest peaked. Although I have guessed the major plot twist before it was even revealed and there were a few gaps in the writing, it was still enjoyable to read through. I recommend this if you're looking for a unique take on Greek mythology where it isn't actually discussed that much (if that makes sense).

I thought this was an interesting start to a new JLA series. I definitely preferred The White Hot Kiss Trilogy to this series but it was entertaining and a little frustrating.

3.5 was a great story that kept me hooked. Like every book by this author, job well done. But I can tell this is some of her early writing. I wish I could rate ut higher but it's very similar to Vampire Academy.
