This book was front and center at my local library's Staff Picks section, and I'd heard praise about it from friends in the past (back before the days of iPhone - I'm old!)...so hell, I gave it a shot. About halfway through, I realized that we wouldn't be getting any real look into the main characters' minds or emotions. As a reader mainly of literary fiction, The Night Circus's the saccharine prose and whimsical worldbuilding could not hold my attention.

From the first page, I knew I was about to read my new favorite. Intertwined with poetry, secrets, romance, mystery and magic all wrapped in an indescribably incredible circus. This book makes you feel like you are another character in the story, another performer in this circus. What will you take from The Night Circus? What will The Night Circus take from you?

The concept of this book made me pick it up off the shelf but the descriptions and the language kept me reading. There were so many elements and at times I wasn’t sure exactly where the story was going but I think it was a good combination of whimsy and fantasticalness that encouraged me to stick it out. Definitely not a book for everyone but it was a good switch up from what I normally read.
