Some fun parts, but not my favorite of his works. The rapid switching between various settings and times can sometimes be a little difficult to keep up with.

Multiple points of view of the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis.

Stunning. Reminded me of Graham Greene, but Englander weaves seemingly disparate stories of Israeli and Palestinian players into one cohesive tale. Only a glimpse of the passions and history of this ongoing conflict.

Instead of flying rockets !

A good book--took a little time to settle into the narrative. My least favorite book by one of my favorite authors. But still a good book. Prefer his short stories.

If you spent the whole weekend helping produce a giant arts festival and wanted / needed / deserved a day off, this is an excellent choice for staying home and drinking coffee and reading a novel in almost one sitting.

Well written, suspenseful novel that is frightening and awful to contemplate. The book’s characters are spies and shifty businessmen and they are operating in the underbelly of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. There are some humorous parts but not so hilarious that I laughed out loud. The story explores the fundamentals of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict in its most sordid forms. The Israelis and Palestinians are in a symbiotic death spiral that seems never to end.
