I started it this morning and finished it this evening.
It's such a gripping read, much like Iris you're drawn in, then as the heat and tension mount you're compelled to watch the inexorable conclusion.
This book says so much about coercion and abuse in a range of relationships, and the heartbreaking amounts people will knowingly tolerate to feel a connection.
There's also the morbid fascination and fetishisation of both the abused and abusers by those outside the group.
The writing here is so good, I was swept along, and the heartache I felt for so many characters. Brilliant book.

I really enjoyed this book — it leans into the dreamlike quality that I always want novels about cults or communes to have, even if that means it’s a book based on “vibes” rather than solid plot. And while I think the character development could have been stronger — and some characters appear and disappear with little explanation — I overall enjoyed this and would really recommend for a seasonal read.

This book is so beautifully written. Can’t believe it’s the author’s debut. Dark, visceral, beautiful, ugly. Explores power imbalances in all kinds of relationships, womanhood, cults of personality and those that are drawn into them, what we will do when we love someone who is selfish, and what we will do when we are looking for someone to blame for our circumstances.
