CW: Death of a parent (in the past), bullying
Witchy takes place in a kingdom where your hair length determines how powerful your magic is. The longer your hair, the more powerful you are. But if your hair is perceived as too long, you’re considered an enemy of the kingdom and are burned for it. We follow Nyneve as she deals with being forced into a path she doesn’t want and resenting the kingdom for killing her father because of the length of his hair.
For whatever reason, the art was really not my thing. I think it might have been the colours chosen as well as I found the lines to look a bit sloppy.
I think the premise is a pretty cool one and I did enjoy what we learned about the world. However I found I didn’t really understand much about the world, and made it a bit confusing as to why certain things were happening.
The characters did have clear motivations which I enjoyed, but I don’t think any of them will leave a lasting impression on me.
I really appreciated how diverse this graphic novel was. There are multiple people of colour as well as a trans girl.
There were quite a few humourous moments that definitely lightened the tone.
Whilst reading I did enjoy the plot, but this volume only just scratched the surface of it and it wasn’t enough for me to feel like continuing.
Overall, this did nothing new for me but was a quick and fun read for the most part.

Rounded up to 3.5 stars.
TRIGGER WARNING: death of a parent, bullying, transphobia and misgendering
I got this as part of May 2020's OwlCrate box, and figured I'd give it a read. This is only the second graphic novel that I've ever read, but I liked the layout of this one and the color schemes used. The diversity was an unexpected but very welcome surprise. I loved that there was a character who was explicitly transgender, and that there were characters of various shapes and sizes, including one who had a larger body type. The story line included bullying, which was definitely realistic as far as teenage life goes.
The story was pretty interesting, but it was a little slow moving for my taste. It was a fast read, but not that much happened, and after reading the whole story, it ended without any real resolution. I was left wondering what happened. It wasn't that it ended with a cliffhanger, it just kind of ended without any real ending. Almost as if there was a chapter missing where the ending should be. It didn't have any information about any further books, and it doesn't indicate that it is the start of a series, so I was very confused. It had potential in my opinion, but it just left me feeling too lost at the end.
And not just the end. I felt like there wasn't enough background information or development of the characters. It seemed a bit superficial to me, although I did enjoy the artwork and parts of the storyline. Overall it wasn't bad, but it didn't grab me and make me hopeful that more books are forthcoming.

A pretty quick graphic novel. Interesting premise, cool artwork, and I'm hoping to see a sequel so we can find out what happens next!
It was fine and interesting enough, but I didn't feel like I actually connected with the story.

It's a pretty chill graphic novel with an interesting premise. It sets up alot of mysteries that I'm hoping will be developed in future books
