As much as I enjoyed the first book of this series, I didn't enjoy this one. It was pretty predictable--I knew who the "bad guy" was and who was "lying" to Joanne pretty quickly. I'm hoping the 3rd book will be better.

Thunderbird Falls (Walker Papers, #2) by C.E. Murphy – Do you ever yell at main characters? There were quite a few: THAT’S A TRASH IDEA!! STOP STOP STOP! URGs! But the end is fab! Happy Reading!

I've been trying out more books I'm not sure about since I joined Audible Escapes.

This one was perfectly fine for having on while I did chores and errands. The narrator did a good job of matching her tone to how the story was going.

I didn't love the book though. I think #2 in the series will be the last for me. Not because it was horrible but because there are just so many books out there to listen to and this didn't hook me.

I hate Joanne Walker with a passion, I hate her attitude towards life and people, I hate her thoughts, I hate her whining, I hate that she's alive and other people far more interesting in this universe are dead - like Colin.

Joanne Walker is the kind of character that is supposed to be cynical, rational possibly tortured/flawed - only she's not. Her voice belongs to a YA character, her actions speak of High-School drama, I cannot actually believe that she's supposed to be a twenty-seven years old woman, she's stuck somewhere at the angsty fifteen years old age. I cannot believe that this whole series which has such a nice cast of characters is build around someone like Joanne Walker and we're stuck with her pesimistic and unpleasant perspective about the world, it's so unfair. She's utterly lacking of joie de vivre. I feel that I would have enjoyed the plot of this book or the plot of the previous book or the plot of the next book so much more if someone else would have ended with the shaman powers - anyone else - and left Joanne Walker in her black bubble of depression.

Couldn't put the book down. Read it in one sitting... even better than the first book. Now I can't wait to get my hands on Coyote Dreams...

A pretty disappointing follow up to the first book, which I had really enjoyed. Joanne seems to have lost much of her charm here and this is a very Joanne-centric story. I really missed seeing more of Gary, Billy Holiday and Morrison.

While Joanne's reluctance to accept her powers makes narrative sense, it doesn't excuse her outright stupidity throughout the course of this extremely transparent set up. The novel would have benefited greatly from some complementary subplots and secondary character development. Instead we get an obvious and standard "things aren't as they appear" routine and a clueless and mopey heroine.

As in the first book, the shamanic sequences are also meandering and confusing. Felt like Murphy could really benefit from a better editing process. There are good ideas here, but they aren't clear.

Not sure if I'll bother continuing with this series at this point.

This wasn't quite as good as the first book, but Joanne Walker is an interesting enough and well fleshed out character that I'm tempted to pick up book three right away! I was disappointed that the description on the back cover spoils some of the surprises from the latter half of the book. Yes, I was uneasy about certain events before I read the back of the book... But that tension is gone when it's confirmed.
