A Rule Against Murder

Louise Penny

4.03 AVERAGE

Murder follows Chief Inspector Armand Gamache on vacation to a remote lakeside resort.
Is one of his favorite people from charming nearby Three Pines the murderer?
Or was it the shopkeeper and his cleaning lady wife?

I especially like Jean-Guy in this book. Didn't expect him to be the comic relief!

As usual a fantastic book by Louise Penney. Set away from Three Pines for a change but still involving some of the characters. Love Gamache, Beauvoir and Lacoste working together again without the distraction of Nichol and the Arnot case. This time we get to know Reine-Marie Gamache, Armande's late father,as well as Peter's complicated relationship with his family-and his own darkness. Every book opens more to the reader but leaves so much remaining for subsequent books.

So clever.

The booktok girls were talking about plot books and character books and it occurred to me that this series is setting books

Currently reading podcast convinced me to read this. They claim this is where the series picks up, but I think for me it might be the next one. I did enjoy learning more of the backstory of the characters from three pines.

There was a lot and I mean a LOT of plodding. Holy family dynamics Batman. Also, no decent parents are ever THAT misunderstood. I object.

Also that ending was so cheeseball it could totally have been a chain email forwarded to you by THAT aunt, yes that one.

However. The story of Armand's father and the heaping helping of Jean Guy lift this to three stars. More Jean Guy, who never loses his keys, would go very well thank you.
