Engaging airplane read, with interesting mystery plot. Nothing highly memorable, but nice way to pass the time. Recommended for fans of cozy mysteries and Louise Penny.

louise penny books are little gems of comfort - which always seems so weird, since she's writing murder-mystery stories. but there you go. she has managed to create such charming and endearing character and settings that it doesn't matter if you figure out 'who done it?' early on. you just want to go along on the ride and enjoy each moment. and i really enjoyed this book - the 4th in penny's 'chief inspector gamache' series. it takes place away from the village of 'three pines', so not all of the familiar, quirky supporting characters make an appearance. but a few do, and the village is nearby. this novel has most reminded me of an [a:Agatha Christie|123715|Agatha Christie|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1321738793p2/123715.jpg] story - group pf people, on holiday, contained within a resort on a lake's edge. it doesn't get much more [b:Evil Under the Sun|16305|Evil Under the Sun (Hercule Poirot, #23)|Agatha Christie|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1386922974s/16305.jpg|907837] than that. :)

This books are always so good and so enjoyable to read. I really enjoy the characters and how they evolve from book to book.

Real rating 3.5 stars. As Inspector Gamache stories go, this one was less satisfying than the others I'd read (but in the scheme of things, that's not saying much). It was not set in Three Pines (which may have had something to do with my lesser interest), though there were characters from Three Pines as well as the detectives I've grown to know. It was still a good story, I just struggled towards the end.
