mot quite my brand of humor, but I did like the book and author lists.

"Page after page, book after book. I was just passing time, waiting, waiting, waiting for I don't know what. For something to happen."

"Virgil lies here, gone to seed,
Time enough at last to read
Nestled quiet in his nook,
Time aplenty, but no book."

I've read this when it first came out and I loved it then.

However, reading it now...it's just okay. But why is it just okay? It feels like something that I should be really into right now with all the garbage that's going on in the world. But no, that's not how I feel.

I just don't think there's movement in the book, if that makes sense. Nineteen-year-old me loved the book but forty-six-year-old me...not so much. It's not bad but I suppose there's a reason why I didn't keep the book around when I first bought it.

I desperately wish this place were real (or, if it is, that the author would reveal it), because I long to go there!

Quirky, funny, and kind of sweet - this is a good book to curl up with when you want a short escape filled with a lot of odd characters. It reads a little like an NPR segment, in a good way. The bed & breakfast is owned by two brothers, and you get to know them, their animals, and their stream of guests, like they are your very own neighbors. There are some light life lessons, and even a recipe or two, but it is mostly about people being themselves and the beauty found in that.

An amusing little gem of no great serious substance that celebrates life and literature and, indirectly, language. The vocabulary of this book at first seems kind of pretentious or overly precious but quickly becomes central to the charm. Hector and Virgil have an interesting life at their BnB with Waffles the cat and Mrs. Rochester the parrot and their guests. A nice read for a lazy day.

Lovely cozy book with bibliophilia at its centre. Could easily return to reread. Just shy of 5 stars as it feels a little dated but mostly that adds to its charm.

Hillarious collection of short stories written in Bill's usual breezy style. Loved this book.

So funny! A book-lover's delight! I loved the story of how their mother came to have the twins....
