I have wanted to read this book ever since I was a teen and have only just got round to it at the age of 25.

I loved the interweaving of book quotes with the chapters - I thought this was beautiful and a lovely tip of the hat to bookworms everywhere. I was really excited for the concept of a bookworm with the ability to bring characters to life but was left missing something by this book.

However, I found myself counting down the pages to the end of the book. Feeling I was dragging my feet through it rather than savouring each page - and I normally like long books! I found myself questioning the decisions made at some points in the books by characters, which didn’t seem to match their personalities. I felt the text at times was disconnected emotionally - even in parts where emotional reunions were involved! I also felt like I couldn’t easily picture the places in the novel at times as there was a lack of scenic description.

In sum, I really love the concept but feel some descriptions were missing and that there are some areas for development.

This was a childhood favourite of mine so I decided to reread it! As someone who loves to get lost in books I really like the concept of this story. It was just as charming and enjoyable as I remembered, but lacked the depth and nuanced writing I craved as an adult reader.

Rereading the series so I can finally finish Inkdeath, and because of the gorgeous new covers. This felt like coming home to an old friend - some things haven't changed (my fascination with Dustfinger), others have just adjusted (I'm more of an Elinor than a Meggie now). Was over the moon that this one still rang true.

This was my first reread of inkheart in years and the nostalgia is real. The inkheart series was one of the first bigger books I read as a child and rereading it reminded me of my love for this series and how much it influenced my love for reading and writing. If this would have been my first read, I might have only given it four stars but since it owns such a special place in my heart I needed to give it five stars.
