A difficult but important book. Content warnings for slavery, violence, sexual assault, and mentions of suicide.

The art is incredibly well planned. There are numerous panels where a modern setting is shown but windows and puddles reflect an image of the 1700s with enslaved people in the same physical place. The modern buildings where the creator goes to research are clearly well researched.

This is another graphic nonfiction book where the creator is a character in the story. I love this writing technique. The personal story along with the research makes the content so much more meaningful and relevant to today.
