I learnt a lot of things about the subject of race and slavery in the US and about how this history is being dealt with. I was a bit surprised at first because I expected the stories of women who led slave riots and the story mostly focus on how it is impossible to find their story. But this was actually interesting to focus on that
I really wasn't a fan of the drawings however.

This was a really brilliant way to convey the information. I really enjoyed this, and you can get through it really easily.

I would have liked it in color instead of black and white.

Wake is an incredible and educational graphic novel that falls within my newest favorite genre: nonfiction in which the author shows us how they got their information, what the researching process was like, and how they are reconstructing events of the past. Through Hall's journey and storytelling, we find out the purposefully hidden truths of how women led revolts. We see what the revolts would have looked like and how codified misogyny played a part in setting their stage. Wake should be taught in history classes, not just for the often obscured historical facts, but for the exemplary distinction between history and historiography as well.
