A really fun fantasy adventure with great worldbuilding and some pretty good art!
Art: The style is pretty good, it’s got a nice sketchy feel to it. The backgrounds are detailed but not so much that it’s distracting. The world feels very alive with the graffiti over everything, it’s a simple detail but it really works. The character designs are alright, not bland but nothing special, standard American comic style. I think the Bandaged Man looks a bit silly. The expressions are very good, but the panels feel a bit bland sometimes. I don’t know why but I never found myself stopping for too long to look at the art. It just feels kinda repetitive I guess, but it is still very good.
Character: I really like the characters. You get introduced to who they are quickly, and grow to love them over time. They all have flaws, they’re not perfect. The prince especially, he starts off as flawed but has a very nice arc. It makes for a good adventure when the cast grow and change. The characters have some quirks to keep them dynamic too.
Story: For the first volume it’s a good intro to the word and characters. I really like the worldbuilding and how were introduced to it. You in a way get a more objective look on the conflict of the world too, by viewing it from multiple sides. So you can follow the characters actions better.
The quest part is fine, there’s nothing too special outside of the world, like a standard quest but it’s again held up by it character and the main story.
The story being an escape, which is done very well. There’s actually stakes, no character is safe. You fear for the characters but you’re also having a good time. It mixes whim, character, and grittiness very well.
I am very excited for the second volume.

A great comic that discussed many important topics, such as self-acceptance. There were some surprisingly dark scenes, but not anything too scary. I will definitely continue with the series.
