Julie Garwood highlander books are just catnip for when you need a lovely, sweet time. Please note that I've tagged this with "abuse" but that's because the FMC has a background of abuse - it doesn't happen on page, but she's clearly recovering from it.

I know I'll come back to JG's highlander books again and again.

It was okay. I liked the end parts more than the middle parts.

So glad I picked this one up, I was having difficulty in finding a book that could hold my attention until I finished, and Saving Grace was indeed my saving grace. (I'm so poetical).

The next book I'm reading will also be by this amazing lady, Julie Garwood, as I've just become her fan.

One of the very first romances I read...and the reread a lot. Just simple, sweet, mildly hilarious. Lots of Highland Husband Highhandedness (aka Assumptive Alpha Arrogance) facing off against Sassy Sexy Stubbornness.

Such a good comfort read with all sorts of plot going around to make it a meaty story. Also, a sweet and rewarding side romance emerges near the end.

One of my favorite Garwood's.

2.5 stars.

When I started this novel, I was really enjoying it. The writing was super easy to consume and get through. The characters were fine, I didn't love them but I was intrigued by them.

However at about the half way point the repetitiveness of what the characters would do and say got annoying and the skimming started.

Gabriel would be rude and gruff and demand Johanna rest and not move or do anything more strenuous than sewing by the fire. Johanna would scoff at that and then go do what she wanted, normally getting hurt or in trouble in some way. Then Gabriel would find out or catch her doing what he told her not to, Johanna would placate him in some way, usually by petting him, and then the cycle would continue the next day/next week.

Other than that nothing really happened. Many conversations that could have been an interesting plot point were happening out of Johanna's ear shot so she doesn't know what's going on, and neither does the reader.

After a while I got kind of bored. So maybe something really interesting happened in the half I skimmed but I kind of doubt it.
