Pros:
> Loved the expansion of the world in this story! Was just as good as the first book.
Cons:
> Unfortunately compared to the first book I didn't love this as much. The pacing of the plot felt all over the place and I felt like we were jumping from one major plot point to the next without allowing any real development. Especially towards the end WTF that was a rushed ending and I was like ??? after the steady and slow build up of the first book this felt like an explosion of war/tension out of no where and it did not work at all.
> Same with the plot I thought the character development was .... I could see the author was trying to get the main character to explore more of her darker/shadow side, to build on what happened on the first book. But it just felt like her character development moments were dropped in random places in the beginning and then completely ignored towards the end.
> My original issues with the side characters in the first book also carried on into the first book, a lot of the side characters fell flat and I felt like none of them had any real connection to the main character.
> I feel like a lot of YA would work better if they avoid full on rebellion against an empire etc. because few series actually get it right. I think this would have been great if the outright war was restrained to a court feud instead, something more slick and behind the scenes, especially with the tea motif.

One of the rare occasions that I liked the second book more than the first!
.
There was a lot more adventure in this one, but more importantly, there was more tea magic. The deeper dive into the magic was nice. I also enjoyed the dual POV that let us see the story from both sides this time.
