I listened to this as an audiobook.

I liked this book. It was a little obvious at first. And certain parts during the beginning didn’t really keep my attention but then middle to the end was great. I guessed the plot twists at the end but it was still a good read. I’d read again!

I enjoyed the first part of this book more than the second.

By the time Ruby got to the castle, it was like an entire other book. The characters from the abbey were tossed off as memories and basically disappeared. It’s a shame because it was those characters that I liked. I have zero interest in Rasmus and Marella. In fact, I was waiting for her to reveal herself as a double agent (that’s how little I trusted her) for most of the second part.

The romance was okay. Not spectacular or anything, but I’ve seen worse. At least they had some kind of chemistry.

It was on par with many YA fantasy novels: nothing amazing, but nothing disastrous either.
