A great, concise set of advice, musings, numbered lists, and recipes centered upon the essential act of washing the dishes. Miller writes with economical prose, an intentional style that parallels his views on dish washing. As the dish washer in my home, I enjoyed this quick hour to gain both perspective and insight on my daily chore, something Miller (and now I) hope can be considered more meaningful than that.

Definitely a case of a publisher wanting the next "The Art of Tidying Up", but still with a few good tips. Even for those of us who cannot subscribe to a zen philosophy of dishwashing, I will now keep in mind that washing the non-oily things first will save a lot of hassle, and that addressing the most awkward pieces (such as champagne glasses) first will unblock the whole task. That being said, the first chapter is the most helpful, the rest is really straining to create a book.

This book is exactly what the title says it is- a book on how to wash your dishes. The writing is rather lovely and meditative, and the size of the book is rather charming (much like An Elderly Lady is Up to No Good, it's a book you just like holding).
The first half of the book was where I got the most pleasure and information and inspiration- I ordered new sponges, new dishcloths, decided to change our dish soap.

This is wonderful. This is poetry, a guidebook, and a love letter to the kitchen.

i love romanticizing parts of life you would normally overlook or hate. this quick read made me want to cook and organize and keep a clean tidy home. and it has good, practical tips, but what i loved about this book was just finding purpose and peace in little, often mundane things.

This was very charming - “You will always have Paris, and there will always be dishes. I will wash, and you can dry.”
