A great call back to classic Science Fiction, that uses a fictional world to examine what it means to exist and the value of there-in.

I personally would have preferred there be no epilogue (which the book called “prologue”), but I understand why it was there.

Original, fast-paced. I really liked it

3.5 stars. I was really interested in the first half of this book, especially the flashbacks to humanity and the pondering about robot souls. But the last quarter or so was non-stop battles; descriptions of explosions and bullets flying. Snoooooooooze.

Mediocre action pop-scifi with not much in the original ideas department. One of the more disappointing things about this story is that the robots behave exactly like human characters would. There is a lot to explore with how robots might experience the world, but it is ignored in favor of generic action heroes.

I was half way through it and couldn't finish it, it's not a bad book, and is pretty entertaining, it's just that it's too "Hollywood" non-stop action, a 3 act structure, bla bla bla.
The sci-fi elements are interesting but lazily explored (why do robots identify themselfes with genders? Why do robots call other robots "person" or "man") you can swap the robots by humans and the story is fundamentally the same. Why all robots express themselves in the same way? The book make a difference between robots that were more human oriented and other that were more military / labor oriented in the past but they all express themselves with the same range of emotions, why?Idk, it's entertaining and easy to read, but don't expect a masterpiece out of this

I picked this up as a "filler" read between more substantial books. And I was really surprised by the depth of the story.

Yes, it's about post-apocalyptic robots. Yes, it sounds a bit silly.

But I was engrossed and engaged, flipping pages to see what happened next. And pleasantly surprised by the twists and knots of the story.

I'd rate this as a 4.5 if I could. And maybe some day I'll round it up to 5.

4.5 stars. I read Day Zero before this one and I'm glad I did because I enjoyed this book more. I think I would've been disappointed with DZ if I had read SoR first. DZ was just a bit too sappy. This story felt more gritty. Set in the post-human future, robots are facing their own existential crises. Two competing One World Intelligences are striving to eliminate the other and subjugate all robots into one megamind. A fun and well-written story.
