I read this book when I was a teenager, and never forgot the clever, ruthless killer or the ingenious means of murder. I love Wimsey, a truly human and complicated character, and the playful eruditeness with which Sayers writes. The books are, it must be acknowledged, larded with offensive racist and anti-Semitic references which very much reflect the time at which they were written. This one is no exception. But it is also far from sexist and Sayers almost unwillingly seems to have a keen sense of the difficulty of being a closeted lesbian woman at this time. Overall, if you can get past the dated social mores, this is a marvelous read.
