Too much rehashing of old stories. only the last half was new and interesting.

Well, this was it. The change in the story. The worlds have been explored, the characters developed, and now we come around third base to take it home. Just two more books left in the series and there feels like there is just so much left to happen.

You get the return of a few characters that you really haven't seen since book 1, like Limbeck, Jarre, Zifnab briefly (not even sure what the purpose of his brief scene was), Hugh the Hand (yay), Bane, and Iridal. Alfred was eerily absent this go 'round, but you did get you're first real look at Haplo's lord, Xar, which was pretty cool. The dragon snakes made an appearance too as dragon people instead, weird, but they evidently show up as whatever happens to be convenient....which is cool I guess. But something just kept this one from being 5 stars...

I'm going to chalk some of the lull filler parts as this just being a segway to the end of the story line. But there were still some irritations with the characters. Hugh, for one, was such a mother effing bad ass in the first book! I mean...he was A MOTHER EFFING ASSASSIN! Why did he have to turn into a lovesick puppy? What a waste. And THIS right here is why I hate forced love stories... and that has been running rampant throughout this series. Some is fine, ok, whatever, move right past it...but it made an ASSASSIN go from a TOTAL BAD ASS to a LITTLE BITCH! Uggghhhhhhh!!!!

Ok, rant over. SIKE IRIDAL! The other half of the "love story." (insert eye roll here) "I love Hugh. I love my child. I wanna trust Hugh. I wanna save my child. I can't walk any further. I don't trust Hugh. I'm so tired. My magic is so powerful but I'm literally not going to do anything with it other than
Spoilerliterally kill my child that I'm trying to save.
" Please can she just go away. Pleeeease.

Annnnnyways...this is overall a totally solid read. Great world building continuation, great character building continuation (outside of the two mentioned above), and you totally meet some new bad asses, namely the Assassins Guild members. Not to mention a particularly awesome battle towards the end. Onward to book 6!!

This book was a little annoying. I don't know why. I think it's Bane. That little bitch pisses me off!

This is probably my least favorite of the books so far. The first 3/4 of it felt like a lot of exposition and retelling of events and things.

Bane's back, and annoying as ever. But he's also really repetitive and just kind of boring.

No Alfred in this one, after the events of the last book.

I was cool to see
SpoilerHugh
again, and I'm definitely curious to see what happens in the next book, what with
SpoilerHugh being meant to kill Haplo.

I don't think that's really the goal, though. I think the Kenkari just want Haplo to know that Xar wants him dead, tbh.

The last 1/4 of the book did pick up, and set up things nicely for the next book.

Gotta say, though, I'm really happy that
SpoilerBane is dead, the annoying little shit.
