The best of all her books that I've read so far. Should be 4 stars, but she loses one for killing the dog.

Hunter and I read this book together. Of course I was the one reading towards then end during a particularly sad moment and I could barely read the words with tears in my eyes. A good book.

i'm enjoying survival stories and there were some good elements of that in here. crazy story, amazing dog, quick and compelling to see if she would make it.

The dog dies:(

Hatchet, next generation. A character to cheer and root for, a dog without peer. Normally I crave dialog in a novel. I did not miss it in this one.

A good page turner. I did keep thinking, omg this girl has gone through so much trauma! But her strength of character and will and the journey she goes on in the book is great. The author really had me a couple times, totally dismayed and wondering how Jess was ever going to survive.

I absolutely loved this book. It held my attention and had some really great twists and turns in it. Never, did I ever expect to be crying in the middle of the grocery store while as I did some shopping and listened to the audio version. I thought about this book for several days after finishing it. It is an amazing read.

I could not put this book down! If you enjoy survival novels, this is a must read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one--but I'm not sure it's for everyone.

The book starts off very fast and intense. The main character Jess has just seen her father killed and their cabin (which is in the VERY middle of nowhere Canadian woods) burned down. Save for her father's dog, she's all alone, winter is coming, and she's injured. No one is coming to rescue her. What follows is her survival and revenge story, initially told by alternating "before" and "after" segments that slowly just meld into the present.

I loved the survival aspect...her finding shelter, food, fire, ect. However, I think that some may find it a bit repetitive at times, and wish that the book would just move on to what happens next.

It's a fast read (I greedily read through it, dying to know how it was going to end).
