"The world, even the smallest parts of it, is filled with things you don't know."

It's fine, it's pretty standard sad kid YA fare.

I thought this was great and very relatable! Recommend to ANYone! Made me laugh out loud!

January 2012: reread again, out loud, at bedtime for a few weeks. laughed and cried again.

I actually really loved this book but then I found out he sexually harassed a bunch of women so I couldn't give it 5 stars...

Loved this! One of the best YA's I've read.

I never liked young adult books, not even as a teen... but there is something special in this one. It is not the story itself -frankly, quite predictable- or the racial component -important in the context, but not prominent as much as the title would suggest-, it's the style. The two main words I can think of are "endearing" and "adorable". You can really feel the general tone of the book, without indulging too much in melancholy or naivité. Maybe it's because I had low expecations, but I really enjoyed it because of it. So much I am giving it 4 stars.
