Doing some comfort reading. I'd forgotten how confronting some of the content of this book is. The relationship between Kyle and Wintrow is just... harrowing reading.

A fantastic book - I loved the characters and how invested I got into traders of all things. I would get very on board for most all characters and I even liked seeing the perspectives of the ones I disliked just because I feel like Hobb is so good at making the good and the bad characters feel like real people who have realistic perspectives. Everyone has flaws in Hobbs books and it's so interesting to see the ways these characters make bad decisions - you know they are likely bad decisions but at the end of the day they will push through.

I especially like Wintrow's perspective, he felt like the Fitz of this universe, absolutely put through the wringer but I feel like he is slightly more understanding and much better at holding his temper. His kindness is such a breath of fresh air through this book. Hobb does not hold back putting her characters through hell but the throughline of how important kindness is what makes me love her books.

By the end I was buying the next book and excited to keep reading, I am very interested to see how all the characters will do next.

Started it - just not my cup of tea- beautifully written... I think I was just not in the mood for angst and injustice...
