I don't know what to think? It was mostly sweet but also frustrating? I hated how they grew apart again and again over simple misunderstandings. Communication is definitely neither of their strong suit.
But maybe that's the point? Marianne and Connel are very broken and they try their best despite that. At least Connel does. Marianne is kind of along for the ride lmao. I don't know if this is something wrong with me or not but the whole "she's entirely his and he can do anything to her" made me so uncomfortable.
I don't know if it's because part of me can't imagine giving myself like that to someone any time soon or because it was just cringe guy dominates girl stuff? I liked the politics mention a lot though. I feel for Connel. Moving to a new city hoping to meet like-minded people in university and it's just not been happening and the loneliness that comes with that.
Maybe TMI but when he was at the therapist or campus counselor and checked off "I have suicidal thoughts but won't act on them" i felt that so hard. Honest to god i don't want to kill myself i just want the shitty feelings to stop. And to stop feeling lonely. It's nice that the book had some of that.

Being harder on book reviews. Read this in California but I fear the plot felt like I was back in high school. Anticlimactic and a bit graphic with strong themes of self-harm:/
Absolutely hated that to be honest- just two emotionally stunted people who never show a shred of character development going in circles

Not much happened in this book but I still kept reading it so that must count for something? I enjoyed the writing but can’t say I cared much about the characters by the end, even for such a character-driven novel.

i couldn’t put this down. i had such a hard time explaining to people what it’s about… just two people! just two people and their lives! because it was so much more than that. the writing was incredible and so relatable. i am very moved by this in a way i don’t think i knew about.
