I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH! It has all of my favourite things: a great, spooky plot, a mystery that slowly unravels, characters that aren't perfect but perfectly lovable, and a great, balanced, honest love story centering a bi main character. This is gonna be a long time favourite.
So good and fun! Loved the creepy autumn athmosphere and the importance of family in this story.
It was a very fast paced book with likeable characters you can't hep but root for. The main character's gang was also fun and i loved their friendship.
Would recommend :)

I do love spooky YA Southern Gothic and this didn't disappoint! It had real atmosphere, explored complex relationships familial and romance. I will say the mystery felt very drawn out but thats my only negative thing here.
P.S there's some great bi representation in this book.

What a gorgeous book, I absolutely loved it! Most stories so intrinsically tied to music don't translate so well in print form, but this one did. Maybe it's just because my family comes from Appalachia and the tradition of bluegrass and folk and murder ballads, but I thought the incorporation of music was beautifully done, and the story itself was phenomenal.

I love that forgiveness was a huge part of this novel without being cheesy. It was a mature approach and it really elevated the story.

If I didn't get this book from my subscription, I would have been drawn to the beautiful cover anyway. It has been raining, windy and quite gloomy here - so this has been the perfect book to curl up under a blanket with and have a million cups of tea. It has been my favourite book box so far from Book Box Club.
I haven't read many ghost stories, I tend to stay away from them as I get creeped out easily but this wasn't scary at all, haunting might be the right word - as I did have a nightmare about a skeletal deathlike woman shrouded in white lace watching me through the windows (think the woman in black). But once I've read or watched something it's not scary anymore - if it's at night though that fear will linger until daylight.
I was hooked after a few chapters, I love that the ghosts are already established - this isn't a story about finding out or proving that ghosts exist. It is about the main character Shady, trying to uncover family secrets and find out who murdered her stepfather by getting lingering ghosts to speak to her. This book is about family ties, solving mysteries, guilt, grief and about letting go in order to move on with your life - there is also a love triangle going on there, I'm so in love with Cedar. It was fast-paced, there are some twists in there some predictable like I guessed who the murderer was but didn't realise about the creepy dark spirit.
I listened to a great Spotify playlist too, someone has added songs mentioned in the book - I don't think I've heard much bluegrass music before. I found this amazing song called Undone in Sorrow by Crooked Still, the closest I've come is listening to acoustic or folk songs. The Bookshop Band @bookshopband downloads were brilliant, I'm glad to have found new music this month - music is so powerful.

Okay, books like these with such beautiful covers, is EXACTLY the reason why I will always be a staunch #coverhoe *heart eyes*
Set in a small town, Ghost Wood Song, is a story about secrets, murders and ghosts being brought to life by a fiddle playing young girl, Shady Grove – I swear, I am not gonna lie – I just couldn’t stop listening to the audiobook, and if I couldn’t read the audiobook; I ended up reading the eARC on my kindle – the lyrical writing flowed seamlessly, no matter what medium I used; and I swear I fell in love with Erica Waters as an author, by the time I was done with the book.
Beautifully and perfect pace of the plotline made it absolutely easy to relate to the characters, especially considering that fact that this was told in a single PoV – which ya’ll know becomes very hard for me to relate with – but with Shady, it was the ease with which I could familiarize myself & most importantly, empathize with her as an individual had me drowning in all the feels!

There is an amazing LGBTQ rep – the romance, yes there is a sort of love triangle – but the comfort and ease with which the angst, the emotions and the courtship; (yes, the courtship *cue the aww’s) was realistically and wonderfully handled. I usually tend to get irritated with YA characters when it comes to romance, but I actually enjoyed the romance aspect of the plotline!
Ghost Wood Song is YA mystery that is creepy, haunting and suspenseful, though predictable in the end, still had the ability to give me goosebumps right till the end – a definite must read for those who love their mystery with a hint of paranormal but also enjoy a beautiful lyrical writing style as well!
