For the first like 300 pages I was really in to this and couldn’t get enough, and then it did start to feel like it got a bit far fetched? But I did enjoy it and want to know where it went

Karin Slaughter’s Pretty Girls is a gripping psychological thriller that hooked me from the very first page. Two estranged sisters are forced back together after two decades, only to uncover the dark, horrifying truths behind their eldest sister’s disappearance in 1991. Full of shocking twists and revelations, this book had me gasping, holding my breath, and unable to put it down. Absolutely chilling and highly recommended!

I really wanted to like this book but the graphic violence was overwhelming to me. Trust me, all I read are thrillers, and all I watch on tv are crime stories, but this book tore me apart.
It also was slow going. I’m glad I didn’t get the audiobook because I skipped through so much of the gore and details. Maybe I’ll try another of her books but check the reviews for sure before I start one!

An utterly horrific novel. Seriously, don’t underestimate the trigger warnings on this one
I think Slaughter does a good job depicting the graphic parts (and hooey does it get fucking graphic) without romanticizing it in the slightest. Also with amateur sleuth type stories there’s always a “why didn’t you just go to the cops” moment but that’s handled early on and throughout in very convincing and stakes-raising ways
The characters were done well, especially the portrayal of different familial relationships. And that made the ending really satisfying too. It felt a bit too long, like there were parts that could’ve been tightened up
Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes short story: 3⭐️
Depicts Julia’s last day before she gets kidnapped. It doesn’t depict anything that she suffers through, just gets up to the moment she gets kidnapped
It was nice to get her POV and see her perspective, especially of her family. Mostly just sad dramatic irony bc she has all these plans and ideas for her future and we know they don’t pan out

Graphic: Rape, Sexual violence, Torture, Violence, Kidnapping, Murder
Moderate: Addiction, Misogyny, Grief, Stalking, Fire/Fire injury
Minor: Death of parent
I started reading this years ago and somehow never finished? This was amazing. I want to reread it right now
