Claire knew full well that there were things a man could do to a woman that didn’t kill her, but made her wish she was dead.
I hadn’t expected this book to be this dark, so do check trigger warnings before you dive in.
If this book reminded me one thing, it’s that the world is never safe for women. Although, I know it’s dangerous to stereotype based on gender, it’s still an undeniable fact that most oppressors are men.
I feel so much for the dad, though I also share the same sentiment to the other characters. Their miseries lasted on for so many years, and it’s definitely happening in the reality too. How many people are kept waiting and wondering cluelessly about a missing family, friend, or lover?
Anyway, it was predictable but it wasn’t a dealbreaker either. Although I am very much dissatisfied with how things concluded

This book was very hard to get through. It has unnecessary gory details, and is very uncomfortable to read (at least for me) and so gross at times. My God! Big reveal at about 60% which was so predictable, and then it drags on and on. Almost no likable characters and they just be stupid.

Incredible, disturbing, heartbreaking, unputdownable. This one will stay with me for a long, long time.

I’m glad I decided to read this, every time I put it down I wondered what was going to happen. This book has you thinking you figured one thing out then throws in the next thing before you have time to process it fully. Definitely graphic and very dark, so please check the triggers before reading this one.

I read this book for a book club I’m in and honestly, zero regrets. I can’t believe it took me this long to discover this author, but I’ll definitely be checking out more of her work from now on. I’ve been a big fantasy reader for a while, but lately I’ve been dipping into more psychological thrillers, and this one completely pulled me in.
It was so gripping that I actually started rewatching Criminal Minds because it put me right back in that true-crime, serial killer mindset.
That said, this book is dark. It dives into graphic and intense territory (kidnapping, torture, and sexual assault) so please be aware of those content warnings before you pick it up.
The writing style was compelling, and I especially loved how the story involved the entire family. It added so many layers and made it feel more real.
If you’re into psychological thrillers and crime fiction, this one is absolutely worth a read.
