Reread 10/15/23: Still amazing, but also still probably my least favorite of the series. A lot of important things happen though, and the introduction of Dobby is wonderful. Everything wraps up so cleanly, but we all know that won’t last.

"'It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.'"
As expected, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was wonderful. I'm head over heels in love with the Harry/Ron/Hermione trio; it's rare for me to like all the main characters of a book but man, these three remind me of my own group of friends and it's really hitting close to home. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of fantasy, I'm loving the magic of this series (pun very much intended).
The character development and plot twists were great. The only thing that I'm still not really impressed with is J.K. Rowling's writing style. It's very simplistic, which I guess isn't terrible, but I still think she could do better. Sometimes I could only imagine certain details because I (sinfully) watched all the movies before reading the books, not because the writing was detailed.
I'm not totally in love with the Harry Potter series yet—it's entertaining and heartwarming, but I still wouldn't call it a favorite. Then again, I've only finished two books, so I still have a long way to go. And from what I can tell, this is going in a pretty good direction.
