I enjoyed this significantly more than the other Heyer that I read - much more fun, and silly, and with better characters. I now understand why some of my friends adore Heyer.

I liked it, but not as much as I thought I would. It was a nice read.

I love everything about Georgette Heyer novels. The fantastically well researched historical accuracy, the strong female characters and the clean content. All of her Regency romances are a pur delight.

Entah kenapa aku agak bosan membaca buku ini dibanding Classic Romance Pride and Prejudice.

I loved reading this one and stayed up late several nights to get it finished. If you love Jane Austen then you'll love this book. I give it 4.5 stars.

As many other reviewers have already stated, effervescent is the best word to describe this. It's no surprise that Sophy is the most beloved of Heyer's heroines, being a more mischievous Emma Woodhouse type, in an alternate reality where Austen never felt the need to take her down a peg. A better comparison may in fact be Cold Comfort Farm's Flora Poste; cosmopolitan, intelligent and determined to organize the lives of everyone she meets, whether they like it or not. Though the comparisons to Austen are inescapable, its interesting to note that Heyer manages to simultaneously be less dry and yet more detailed and historically specific than Austen ever was when portraying the etiquette expected in the Regency era, though occasionally to the point of exhaustion. Bickering over whether a lady might go on the terrace alone with a gentlemen during a party seems utterly ridiculous to the modern mindset however  historically accurate it might have been. However, regardless of its merits, this is one novel I'd hesitate to recommend due to perhaps the single most antisemitic caricature I've been unfortunate enough to stumble on. An evil moneylender no less. Though limited to only a chapter, it's deeply uncomfortable to read and quite ruined my appreciation for an otherwise pretty delightful romp.

One star off for Charles, but Sophy may be the greatest character in all of literature. Full stop.
