Ascend was a great finale to the Trylle trilogy. I don't want to give too much away, but I read all three back to back, and I'm confused where one stops and another starts. Queen Elora is dying and Wendy must take her place. The Vittra king is still intent on taking Wendy as his heir. He will stop at nothing to achieve this including the murder of the people in her kingdom. She and Tove are set to be married, they aren't in love, but as great friends with a mutual respect for the other it will be a good move for their people. Finn is still around somewhat, popping in confessing feelings, then the next minute completely ignoring Wendy's existence. Matt and Willa are becoming closer but must continue to keep their relationship a secret. Loki is granted amnesty with the Trylle kingdom, and is trying to earn his keep.

****Spoilers****
Tove and Wendy are married, but never sleep together. It's too awkward to sleep with someone you have no feelings for, especially your first time. When the king destroys one of their villages, they all set out to help them recover. Apparently this isn't typical behavior of the Queen. Most of the high ranking members of their kingdom aren't very accepting of Wendy because of her connections with the Vittra. Wendy cheats on Tove with Loki, and even though they aren't in love she feels guilty for having betrayed her husband. She tells Loki it can never happen again. Wendy visits the king and makes a deal with the devil. Oren agrees to stop attacking her people, if she will agree to unite the kingdoms once she is made queen. Since Elora's health is deteriorating daily, she knows that will be soon. She has no plans of following through with their deal, but doesn't have much time to figure out how to defeat him. Elora draws a premonition painting showing their kingdom slaughtered by the Vittra, and Wendy is desperate to stop it. She decides to take the fight to them, it has never been done, and she is counting on the surprise to be their advantage. Oren gets the upper hand, and Wendy has all but given up when he forces her to watch Loki be killed. This act triggers her power, and she is able to defeat him. Sara rushes in and is able to save Loki. Wendy & Tove have their marriage annulled, and she and Loki are married soon after. The night she cheated on Tove she got pregnant, but no one else knows. In the end the Vittra & the Trylle kingdoms are united.

An amazing finale! I couldn't put it down right to the end!! Still an easy read as were the first two, but you could definitely see the change and maturity in the characters that made it feel real. I look forward to more from this author!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a great conclusion to the series and I’m excited to get into the other books in this world. My biggest complaint though is that the big thing we had been building up to over 3 books ended instantly within 2 pages. It was a bit of a let down unfortunately.

I love this book!!! I was completely shocked at how the story went! I would have never have guessed that in the end Wendy went for Loki, in a way I am sad that she didn't pick Finn.

The trilogy was good but what kept it going was Wendy's relationships for me. I am still torn between Loki and Finn as I love both of the characters but in the end I still think the ending was great if not a little predictable. I wish the story continued as I am seriously enchanted by this trilogy and am more than likely to read this book again!

If you want a great fantasy tale and great romance YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!!!!!

I really enjoyed this series. It is not the best written book I have ever read but Amanda Hocking's style is just very easy to read and the books go very, very quickly and the characters are interesting and the story not totally predictable...even the romances are not predictable and I liked that. I wish that some of the details and the character developments had been more sussed out...more information, more time spent with the characters all would have been good...the whole series didn't even take me a week to read...without reading overly much...the quickness of the read was nice but honestly, I could have used a bit more to each book but especially the later two...Wendy developes from a pretty self centered kid to a queen pretty effortlessly and a little more of that transition would have been nice to see. Overall, fun, light, very YA-ish read.
