I want to like Wells so much more because of what he means to the science fiction genre, but I just can't get into his books. I'm not sure if it's his writing style or if his stories are just slow, but this didn't blow me away at all.

This book was said to be a "slow descent into a madness," which is why I picked it up in the first place, and I had never read Wells before. This book is not that. Griffin (The Invisible Man) may not have started off as the serial killer he becomes with the whole Reign of Terror agenda, but he certainly wasn't going to use his invisibility for the good of the people. Before he even finishes the formula, he robs his own father, who proceeds to kill himself, and Griffin shows no remorse. There was no slow descent. He just kept walking down the path he was already on.
That said, when he announces his Reign of Terror and his whole plan for domination through fear and death (I think? It didn't seem very well thought out), it's really not a surprise. He's been doing this on a smaller scale the entire book.
Everything in this book moves quickly. Every chapter has some sort of tension or mad action, until it doesn't feel tense or mad anymore.

Amazing plot. HG Wells has made the concept actually seem possible. The developing madness the invisible man experiences is a driving force, ultimately leading to his demise.
