I will try my best to express just how deeply this book resonated with me. Being the product of colonialism myself, growing up and being others in my own country for speaking the language of the colonizer and then in turn also being othered in the Empire by the colonizer as well, Robin’s struggle with identity within this fictional and historical Oxford really spoke to me. The contrasting ideologies expressed between those in power, the ones that are comfortable in maintaining the status quo, and the ones fighting for liberation, is all too common and regular conversation in my native Puerto Rico, and it is for that reason that the book feels real to me, because it is the reality for those of us with our motherlands under colonial rule.  The magic system is unique and at the same time feels second nature when you have spent so much of your life translating and always looking for the best way to pair words between languages. There is so much more I can say about the book and how amazing it is, but I am limited by the characters allowed in this platform. Read it, and if the book doesn’t resonate to you when it is in fact a reality to some of, it’s time to question how it is that you are moving in this world.  6 out of 5 ⭐️

i finished reading this one a month ago and decided i want to sleep on it before i write a review. well, that turned into a month and i still can’t find the correct words to talk about my feelings towards this book. it took me 3 months to get through it (not because it was bad or boring, just because it required more focus to get into this world and i was having a busy few months) so i got very very attached to all these characters since i read them over a few months and they were carved in my brain. i don’t know… basically this is my no review review of babel.
