This is hands down the funniest Riordan book I've read so far. Apollo as a narrator and then Leo arrived at the end to make more of his amazing jokes? Peak comedy
"The only thing I knew for certain: my punishment was unfair. Zeus needed someone to blame, so of course, he'd picked the handomest, most talented, most popular god in the pantheon: me."

This was a vast improvement from The Lost Hero! Hell, I declare it to be better than The Heroes of Olmpus!

Apollo is something else. This is my first foray into Riordan’s world of the Greek/Roman gods since Mark of Athena, and it doesn’t disappoint. In adulthood, we find so many novels that are about something, that make philosophical points about life, that trudge along through the woes of adulthood. Riordan, the writing style, the humor, the characterization, is a welcome reprieve from the seriousness of the fiction I feel I am ~supposed~ to read as an adult. Some will say that I could always read fantasy, but I’d argue that Riordan’s worldbuilding is better, his characters funnier, smarter, and less pretentiously self deprecating than so many of the fantasy characters we see in novels of both YA and GenPop genres.
Apollo is funny. Self absorbed, demanding, and, conversely, entirely and unabashedly helpless, he’s fun to read, he’s enjoyable to follow, and he creates more opportunity for Riordan to reimagine and rework some of the great myths. I’m disappointed to have only just discovered that this series even exists, but I’m thrilled to have enjoyed the first so much.
