Interesting plots of familiar fairy tales, but only a few stood out, like Rapunzel and Hansel & Gretel

Wow, I've been rating so many books 5 stars lately! It's so out of character for me.

This book was simply gorgeous. It's everything I ever wanted from fairytales. I love how simple the writing is, and although it is simple is really is beautifully written. I also love how one story lead into the next.

I loved it so much I wish it was longer, and included more stories.

This was a fun quick read! The stories are beautiful in their simplicity whilst the interconnectedness adds an interesting layer to the book as a short story collection.

Remimagined fairy tales. Easy to read. Had a really strange bit in the middle where a very simple character was hard to understand and talked about a warm fart in the middle of speech. Odd. But overall it was alright.

This is a rather strange book. It's a collection of fairytale-style stories re-told with a feminist twist, in theory. It's a strange collection and I find myself at a bit of a loss as to what to think about it. It's fun and easy to read. None of the interpretations are so outlandish you can't relate them back to the original, indeed a few suffer from being too close to the original. It's nothing spectacular but it's fun and it's quick.

Instead of always settling for prince charming, Donoghue's maidens renounce their old fashioned femininity to claim their independence and find love in unsuspected characters.

This was a quick enjoyable reading. I liked how the characters moved from story to story and the inclusion of an evil step-father figure for once was nice.

I'm torn on how to rate this. One the one hand, I really liked what this collection did, and I appreciate it for what it is. I loved the way the stories led from one to the next and how the narrator in each story would look at another character and ask who they were before. That makes me think about things I'm not sure I can even put into words. But at the same time, I really wanted more from the stories. I felt like things were missing.
