The Accidental Mother tells the story of Sophie Mills, a single and successful career woman, who all in one day is faced with the fact that a client has a crush on her and her best friend who she hasn't seen in years has died in a car crash and that she is now the named guardian to her friend's small children, Bella and Izzy. Agreeing to take the girls in temporarily while their father is found, Sophie begins counting down the days until her perfect, quiet life will be returned to one piece.

But as the days pass, Sophie begins to feel something for the two children that she never thought she would feel and in doing so, she starts to see that maybe her life hadn't been as perfect as she thought it was.

I loved this book. It had me in tears at several points but equally as often it had me laughing out loud.  The author manages to draw you into the story in a way that has you feeling the exasperation of Sophie, along with the pain and challenges that the two children are facing. A very enjoyable read.

I've always really liked this book, but the last time I read it was long before I had close friends with kids and now probably 75% of them do. Now, I don't think any of my friends would resort to leaving me their children since they all have a multitude of closer family/friends who they would choose over me. That being said, this was much much more upsetting for me than the last time I read it because I could more accurately imagine what Sophie and the girls were going through. That being said, it is an extremely well-written story and I love the character arc of Sophie and the realizations she has over the course of the story, both about herself and about her old friend Carrie.

Another book set abroad. Unfortunately, at this point I am ready for a book set stateside!!

But that aside, I wasn't a super fan of this book because I had already read a book with a very very similar plot line which I absolutely fell in love with at first sight. I may have liked this more if I hadn't read the other book previously.

I did fall in love with the two little girls in the book - they were written perfectly and I could completely imagine them.

So short and simple review - I would only pass this book along to those who like the books abroad and who are ready for a common plot line.

It took me FOREVER to get into this book. It took me nearly 2 weeks to finish which really says something because I usually only take a few days. The first half was slow and there were several spelling errors which really just bugged me. However, I really enjoyed the second half and am quite looking forward to reading the sequel. I couldn't decide if I wanted to like or hate Louis and to be honest, I'm still not really sure. I think if there weren't a sequel, I'd be a lot less thrilled with this book.

This book took me longer to read than I like. The first 3/4 of the book was just okay. I had planned on giving it 3 stars. But the last 1/4 was so good I didn't want to put it down.

Sweet. A nice light book to read. Nothing to heavy and I guessed the end. Not my fav Rowan Coleman book but it was good for the beach.

"The Accidental Mother would be a good read for any woman - Sophie has aspects of her life most people could find in themselves. The main issue of the story (children arriving on your doorstep, having been willed to you after the death of a friend) may have been played out in other books or movies - but Rowan makes many of the issues addressed in this story unique and meaningful. [return]This could be a good read for a book club because I think it could lead to some interesting conversation."

Wasn't feeling this. It was a heavy chick lit book but trying to be something else. Wasn't anywhere close to a Marion Keyes book!

A good read but nothing earth-shattering.
