It took me about 25% of the this book before I got into it but omg did I love this! Taly and Skye's banter and relationship had me kicking my feet and giggling. The conflicts were intense and took me by surprise. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending but needless to say I will be reading book 2 immediately.

I feel like this book was a really solid start to a fantasy series, I just don't know if it was a fantasy series for me.  I feel like it had a lot of elements that I liked, but I have to admit that at some points while reading or listening to this book (I switched on and off), it was a bit of a struggle to keep my attention focused on the book.  I liked the magic, and I thought the characters were great, but this book felt long.  I mean I definitely read a lot of fantasy books and a lot of books I've read are much longer than this one but there are books that are really long but don't feel long while reading it because I'm fully immersed in it but I think I had trouble at times getting fully into this book and because of that, it felt slow and long at points.  I do think this might be a case of it being my problem and not the book because I do think that it was a good book.  I wouldn't have any problem suggesting this book to other fantasy lovers because I do think it has a lot of positives going for it, but I'm a bit conflicted on how much I enjoyed it.  I think I'm just used to reading fantasy books that have a lot more romance in them, so when the romance is left pushed a bit to the background, I'm left wanting a bit more.  There definitely is this friends to lovers dynamic occurring between Taly and Skye, but I guess I just wanted a bit more.  I also think part of my issue is the fact that I must have misremembered the book description.  I really thought that the book was supposed to be about Taly being caught using her forbidden time magic and then being captured and that being a major plot point of the book but then I reread the description and it didn't really say that so I'm not sure where I got that from.  I mean something similar happens toward the end but I swear I read the majority of the book thinking that Taly was going to get caught with her magic and captured and I kept wondering when that was going to happen.  I feel like this is a book that I have the potential to enjoy the second time around more, but I'm also not sure I would want to read it again.  I really like Taly and Skye's characters, but I'm a bit conflicted about how I feel about the overall story.  I definitely think I want to read the next book especially after how this one ended and I just hope that the second book holds my interest a bit more because I want to like this series but I'm a bit conflicted on how much I actually enjoyed reading it.
