I have found myself struggling to get through this book while maintaining some interest in the story. I’m switching to an audiobook to see if it helps me stay engaged in the story.

The flashbacks about the main characters likely comprised about a fourth of the novel. The dream flashback showing the inner life of a character who was not alive during the main narrative did nothing to enhance understanding of the other characters or the story. In addition to moralizing and skipping actually showing potentially difficult moments, the flash forwards also served to obscure the timeline. Moments of second person that had been used to break the fourth wall in other chapters expanded into entire chapter. It can only be guessed this was done in a vague attempt to give the reader the experience of a PC during a cut scene of another character's death.
