This was a good adventure story set in the Caribbean during WWII. If you like Hatchet, this is your book. The first couple of chapters are slow, and it is difficult to read Timothy’s dialogue, but a well written story.

I read this book over and over as a kid. I have also read it out loud to my son. Very good story.

It was an amazing book. I was glued to the pages as soon as I first picked the book up. I even read straight through the night just because I couldn't put it down. It took a major cost to the next day but it was worth it. The story line is very amazing and I just love it. This is definitely a must-read book.

The Cay by Theodore Taylor is a re-read from my childhood that I wanted to revisit. I still can remember my third grade teacher dramatically reading it aloud to us. The story revolves around a young boy Phillip who is marooned on an island in the Caribbean with Timothy, a slave after a torpedo hits the ship they were on. Oh, and there's a cat, too - Stew Cat. Shortly after being stranded on the island, Phillip goes blind which means he has to heavily rely on Timothy to get through his days. There is challenge throughout as Phillip and Timothy learn to navigate the island life together.

I understand why this is a classic, but it has not aged well.

I know a lot of guys who loved this book, even when they were forced to read it in middle school. Therefore, it is now on my list of books to teach to my middle schoolers.
