“… here in this court the wholly negative virtue of tolerance must give way to the sterner but loftier virtue of justice. Especially when the emptiness of a man’s heart becomes, as we find it has in this man, an abyss threatening to swallow up society.”

I don’t think this is exactly what Camus meant but I do believe people who lack empathy have an abyss in their heart that is threatening to swallow up society, and instead of tolerating them, we should bring them to justice. Whatever that justice may be.

Anyway, what a wonderful day it is to look upon the meaningless of existence and, instead of feeling despair and wonder why should one go on, feel at peace and wonder why should one not go on?

It was well written and clearly deserves study and reflection through a philosophical lens but wow was this an unpleasant read. It took me a ridiculously long time to get through compared to its very short length. The narrator is deeply unlikable and unrelatable in a way that leaves me repulsed, not curious. Perhaps that was exactly the point. I won’t say that this wasn’t skillfully crafted, but I enjoyed nothing about this experience.

If “gosh this guy sucks” was a book. It was interesting but pretty superficial however, I don’t regret reading it.

A nonchalant man on his nonchalant journey, learning the nonchalance actions of his were actually morally unjust. How fun. Yeah dude, usually when you’re ok with doing bad things, no matter the lack of feeling associated, usually have consequences. Who would’ve thought. 
At least it was descriptive.
