This book has a lot of messages and meanings that I puts forth. I think if I reread it in a few years I’ll take with me a whole lot of different meanings from this book. It definitely was a sad read, not sobbing sad but more like sorrowful.
it's scary to think i know people just like these characters

either not for me, or not for me at this time.
depressing and beautiful but i couldn’t help be bored, though i can’t deny the ending hitting me like a brick.

Really shows you how much reading speed correlates with interest level—I finished No Longer Human in two days and this took me almost two weeks. My favorite parts were the Naoji passages, and even those were just kind of a weaker version of NLH’s narrative. Kazuko kind of just hangs out and is depressed for the whole book, wheras NLH’s protag runs around and does all sorts of stuff (while also being very depressed). Anyway, not the worst thing in the world, but not for me.
