Read in 2 hours. First book/novella I've read in a long time. Was starting to watch a video on a guy reading 7 Stephen King books in 7 days and for some reason googled for short Stephen King books. I guess it was because that guy said that The Colorado Kid was pretty short, like less than 200 pages. I couldn't find the pdf version immediately but I found this on libgen. 68 pages. There were some interesting social and historical contextual points. Pregnancy in the 1930s during the Great Depression, although this was never mentioned nor do I know what exactly happened during this 10 year period; unmarried pregnant women and how they were treated as outcasts, with shame and disdain, how a 'plain gold ring' made all the difference for such a woman; the understanding of what women should do during pregnancy, stay sedentary and smoke? or exercise, take vitamins, and practise The Breathing Method, there was 1 more Dr McCarron recommended but I forgot. At the end of the novella, there were a few pages of questions sectioned into three parts for the three chapters in the book. Women were expected to be screaming, wailing and crying in pain during contractions. Cheap magic. The breathing method was cheap magic. 'The contractions were painful because they expected the pain.'

I hated it for some reason. Brought down Different Seasons, which INSTANTLY makes it one star.
This was a very odd story, not sure what I think of it , I'm just happy I didn't read it while pregnant.
Strasznie nie podoba mi się sposób, w jaki King opisuje kobiety.
A bit of a strange one, it was my least favourite of the four short stories in the book but it wasn't the worst thing I'd ever read... in one word "Strange"
Have you ever desired a perfect medical pregnancy horror with social commentary fro a kind of racist misogynistic perspective?
Perfect for fretting about getting your girlfriend pregant
